Dr.
Ahmad received his early education in the local schools
from Charkashim Nagar and obtained Secondary School
Certificate in Science Group from Mymensingh Zilla School
and Higher Secondary Certificate in Science from Haji
Asmat College, Bhairab under Dhaka Board. He obtained
B. Sc. and M. Sc. Degrees in geology from the Department
of Geology, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Dr. Ahmad
stood First Class First in the M. Sc. Final Examination
of the University of Dhaka completed in 1972. Subsequently,
he did an M. S. degree in Geology from the University
of Oregon, United States of America and a Ph. D. degree
in Geology from the School of Earth Sciences at Macquarie
University in North Ryde, Sydney, NSW, Australia. He
was an elected representative of the postgraduate students
to the Geology Faculty in the University of Oregon.
While doing his Ph. D., he was an elected member of
the Postgraduate Studies Committee of Macquarie University
in 1986.
The
first job offer for Dr. Ahmad was by the then Central
Superior Service of Pakistan for the position of an
Assistant Director, Geological Survey of Pakistan in
its Head Office based at Queta in early 1971. Instead
of accepting that position he took the side of the Bangla
speaking people of then East Pakistan and played an
active role as a gallant Freedom Fighter in the Liberation
War of Bangladesh. After the liberation of Bangladesh,
Dr. Ahmad worked as a Research Officer in the Power
and Natural Resources Division of the Planning Commision
of Bangladesh in close association with the then Finance
Minister Shahid Tazuddin Ahmed until he joined as a
Lecturer in the Department of Geology at Dhaka University
in November, 1973. He became an elected member of the
Academic Council of Dhaka University as a representative
of the lecturers and made remarkable contribution towards
formation of good academic policies. He was also a House
Tutor of Shahidullah Hall of the university until he
went for higher studies in the United States of America
in 1977.
Dr.
Ahmad worked as a geology/environmental studies Faculty
Members in Dhaka University in Bangladesh, Australian
National University (ANU) and University of Canberra
in Canberra, and Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia.
While at ANU Dr. Ahmad acted as Chairman of the Australia
- New Zealand Regional Committee for a UNESCO Project
for five years. He was an international expert examiner
for Ph. D. Thesis of the Indian School of Mines at Dhanbad,
Bihar, India.
Dr.
Ahmad conducted geological research in the areas of
sedimentology, sedimentary geochemistry, chemical evolution
of world ocean through time, river water chemistry,
geochemical cycles, environmental chemistry, and geochemical
modelling for mineral and metal exploration in many
countries around the world such as Australia, Bangladesh,
Canada, France, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, People's
Republic of China, United Kingdom, and United States
of America. He has written chapters in published books,
and has published research papers in many reputed international
geoscientific journals.
Presently,
Dr. Ahmad is working as a Project Geologist in the Black
Swan Nickel Mine of the world's largest nickel mining
company - the Norilsk Nickel. He is also an Honourary
Research Associate in the Department of Earth and Planetary
Sciences and Aquapath Australia under the guidance of
Emeritus Professor Blair Hostetler. Dr. Ahmad has earned
international reputation in his fields of research and
has many colleagues, friends, and well wishers around
the world.
Dr.
Ahmad has founded DRF that has formally started operating
since the beginning of 2008. He has been also conducting
research on Quran and Science and participating in talk
shows in Bangla Language in the Voice of Islam Radio
FM 87.6 , Sydney, Australia. These radio talks on Quran
and Science have been compiled in audio CDs and are
being circulated around the world. He has been rendering
sincere and dedicated service to helpless poor and the
needy people. Dr. Ahmad has a never-ending passion,
love and patriotism for the land and the people of his
motherland - Bangladesh. From his thirty years of international
experience and a vision of the world, Dr. Ahmad always
sees Bangladesh as a country of rich culture and intelligent
people that has a high potential for developmen. |
